Zero Tolerance

Underage drinking and driving both carry serious consequences for those under 21. Pennsylvania´s Zero Tolerance Law includes fines, license suspensions and even jail time for minors who drive impaired, consume, possess or transport alcohol, or lie about age to purchase alcohol. Adults who are convicted of knowingly and intentionally supplying minors with alcohol are also subject to fines and jail. More about the Zero Tolerance Law is available at www.justdrivepa.com

Dress Down Day for Guthrie Hospice

On Friday, April 19, TAEA organized a Dress Down Day.   A total of $340 was collected from Towanda Area School District employees and donated to Guthrie Hospice. 

The Towanda Area Education Association has held monthly Dress Down Days throughout the year.  To date, TAEA sponsored dress down days have resulted in donations totaling $5,486 for numerous charitable and community organizations.  

TAEA Raises Money "For the Kids"

for-the-kidsThe Towanda Area Education Association held a Dress Down Day on Friday, April 5. $630 was collected by district employees, including Towanda Area Educational Support Personnel Association members, and donated in support of the "For the Kids" Frank Joyce Memorial. This organization, created by Towanda Area School District employees, gives money to students in the district that have lost a parent during the current school year.

TAEA has consistently taken a leadership role in community service. In addition to the contributions announced on April 5, they have given $5,146 so far this year for numerous charitable and community organizations.

ThinkSTEM Program Accepting Applications for Summer Sessions

The Towanda Area School District is now accepting applications for summer sessions of the ThinkSTEM program for students currently in Grades 5 -8. This enrichment program will offer four one week-long sessions this summer. Students may attend one, two, three or all of the sessions. The sessions will run Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am – 1:00 p.m. at the Ulster Elementary School. The program is FREE to any student who wishes to participate. Transportation from Towanda Jr/Sr High School to ThinkSTEM and lunch during the program will be provided by the Towanda Area School District.

The goal of the ThinkSTEM Academy is to expose students to careers and activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Students are challenged with fun, hands-on projects such as learning chemistry through cooking, using engineering to design paper airplanes and utilizing computers to design neighborhoods.
