Students in grades K-6 had a visitor on Wednesday, May 8th. Mr. Greg Bellows, author of "The Giant," read his story and talked about the writing process. Currently teaching 3rd grade in Canton, Mr. Bellows taught in Towanda for nine years. His second grade students at J. Andrew Morrow Primary school gave him lots of input while writing "The Giant," as well as his own two sons at home. Mr. Bellows told students that no matter what your size, you can accomplish giant things! Thank you for your visit, Mr. Bellows!
K4 is just finishing a unit on animals as living things and their habitats. We have discussed animals on land, animals in the air, and animals in the water. During the time of our unit, our students have learned about concepts such as symmetry, migrations, nocturnal animals, and hibernation. We took a nature walk where they collected items that showed signs of spring before celebrating Earth Day. We have now accomplished learning the letters of the alphabet. Way to go K4 friends!
The Spring 2013 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) reading and math assessment will be administered to all 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grade Towanda Area Elementary School students on April 9, 10 & 11. Students will be tested in their homerooms or learning support classrooms, with teachers and other trained school personnel proctoring the test.
This assessment will take approximately six to seven hours over the three days. Students will be allowed additional time to complete the assessment, as needed. Students will complete three sections for each of the reading and math assessments. Examples of items that appear in the assessments are provided in Item Scoring Samplers available on PDE’s website at: www.education.state.pa.us .

Here in K4, students learned about springtime. One of the main topics we studied was growing and changing. Themes in our unit included plants, animals, insects, and people. To explore the topic, students planted seeds, learned about life cycles, and shared baby pictures. To end the unit, K4 friends celebrated by having a Spring Party and Egg Hunt.
