Education Options for 2021/22 School Year

The Towanda Area School District is offering two different options for students to return to school for the 2021-2022 school year. These options are designed to meet the varied needs of our families and students while still providing a quality education.

In every option listed below students will have access to a district-provided device for learning. Additionally, students who have an IEP or 504 plan will receive support from district staff for the implementation of their plan under every option.

Option #1: In-Person Instruction

Students return to school as usual; typical school schedule and instruction within the classroom
Students follow safety guidance as outlined in the district’s Reopening Health and Safety Plan, including the use of face coverings when social distancing is not possible
If students are not able to wear a face covering due to medical reasons, parents will need to request a 504 Plan or IEP revision. Contact Anne Marie Roof at 570-265-2101 ext 4008 for information
Parents can choose district transportation or can choose to transport themselves

Option #2: Black Knight Online Academy

Students can work from home, but will not need to attend regularly scheduled live instruction
Students can develop a flexible schedule to view recorded lessons and submit assignments
This option uses a contracted third-party provider to provide course curriculum. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, the instructors will be Towanda Area School District teachers. Assignments will not be identical to students enrolled through option 1.
Families will need to have a reliable internet connection

Although it is preferred that students transition to and from the Black Knight Academy at regular marking period breaks, we will work with students and parents if this is not possible.
