Ms. Higley became the Principal of Towanda Area Elementary School on February 22, 2016. Previously, Ms. Higley taught mathematics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and gifted education. She has led school-wide workshops in differentiation and technology and presented at a National Middle School Conference.
In 2000, Ms. Higley was selected as the Maryland State Teacher of the Year and achieved National Board certification in Early Adolescent Mathematics. Ms. Higley was awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics in July, 2015. She has participated in the Pennsylvania Initiative for Mathematics, Science and Technology for the past five years and led NASA Summer of Innovation workshops.
In 1998, Ms. Higley was selected as a University of Maryland Fellow and partnered with the head of the IMAGE POETRY Satellite project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The partnership led to numerous publications such as “Solar Storms and You,” “Northern Lights,” and also wrote NASA Connect and Sun Earth Day activities.
Currently enrolled in a Doctorate program through Immaculata University, Ms. Higley has a Master’s degree in Supervision of Curriculum and Instruction and Principal K-12 certification. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a minor in Psychology and certification in Secondary Mathematics (7-12).
