In “Bergeracky” Edmond Rostand’s classic tale of the poet with a giant nose gets a fantastic and modern twist. Cyrano is now Sydney, the witty, brainy and dependable girl whom everyone loves. Well, everyone except for the new guy Royce, that is. He’s fallen for Sydney’s cheerleader friend, Kristine, who has somehow managed to convince him she’s smart. The ever-reliable Sydney reluctantly agrees to help Kristine ask Royce to the Sadie Hawkins prom, which ends up in a Bluetooth-enhanced version of the story’s famous balcony scene. It’s a fantastically fun adaptation with a timelessness that manages to stay true to the original and feels fresh and modern all at the same time. With tons of rocking tunes, this totally teen musical hits it right on the nose!
