COVID Update Letter

COVID Update 10/14/2020

Yesterday, October 13, 2020, a teacher at Towanda Area Elementary School was deemed a "presumptive positive" for COVID-19, even though test results came back negative. The Teacher is doing fine and following all protocols. The teacher has been in quarantine since Friday, October 9, 2020. Contact tracing has been conducted by the Department of Health. No students have been identified as close contacts, but 5 staff members are now in quarantine. They are not exhibiting symptoms and will be providing instruction to our students remotely.

Also, we were notified this morning that a teacher at the Jr/Sr High School has tested positive. This teacher has not been in school since Friday, October 9, 2020. Contact tracing will be conducted through the Department of Health.

Based on conversations with the Department of Health, we are not changing learning models at this time due to safety protocols in place throughout the district. Our goal is to provide in-person learning for our students, while taking steps to ensure everyone's health and safety.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Towanda Area School District Board of Education will meet for a Regular Session for general purposes on Monday, October 19, 2020, at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Towanda Elementary School. Dual Enrollment Informational Meeting held

Jeff Gregory, Director of Admissions from Lackawanna College, presented information to prospective students on dual enrollment opportunities for the 2020-21 school year on Tuesday, October 13th. Payment and registration for courses will be due on February 17th, 2021. Students may pick up information in the guidance office.

COVID-19 Update

The Towanda Area School District would like to make you and the public aware that an individual associated with the Towanda Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. We are working with the Department of Health with this situation. Due to our safety protocols and the decision of the family involved to self-quarantine last week, we are able to keep our schools open. We will continue to monitor the situation with the Department of Health and make any adjustment necessary.

Please help us by continuing to remain vigilant during this difficult time. Screen your children each morning, keep them home if they are sick, and communicate with us early regarding any potential COVID-19 situations relating to your family.

Daily Symptom Checklist

Please remember to complete this daily screening every morning before coming to school. We must all work together to keep our schools open. If you are sick, please stay home.

2020 Color Run

The 5th Annual Senior Class Color Run is coming up on Sunday, October 11, starting at 10:00 AM, at the Towanda Elementary School parking lot. The cost is $30 for an individual runner/walker. If you form a team, you pay $30 for the first runner/walker, and $22.50 for each additional. Registration fee will get you a t-shirt and a color packet for the start of the race. Attention All Parents and Guardians: We have recently found out that even if you send your child to school with a packed lunch they can also receive fresh fruits, vegetables, and milk free of charge. Due to a recent USDA waiver that allows free meals for all students through December 31, 2020; students who bring their lunch from home can supplement their lunch with free healthy options. This is a great opportunity for parents to save time and money when packing lunches each morning. To qualify, students must select three of the five offered components, and one of those must be a fruit or vegetable.
