Today in English III, I collected the Modernist Poetry Review Packet, and students completed the Modernist Poetry Test.

I gave an extra credit assignment (worth up to 10 points).  Write a 10 line poem that uses two of the concepts we went over in this unit.  Please identify which concepts you used in a list on the same paper as the poem.  These poems should be submitted by the end of this week.

Today in English III, we went over the Modernist Poetry Review that we have been working on for the past couple of days in class.  This discussion was completed for participation points. 

I will be collecting this review tomorrow before the Modernist Poetry test.

Today in English III we continued working on our Modernist Poetry Review.  I passed back graded work while students worked. 

We will be going over the key ideas in the packet tomorrow in class and will take the test on Thursday.

Today in English III we continued working on our Modernist Poetry Review.  As the class worked, I passed back all of the graded work I had ready.

• Periods 1 & 4: We will be discussing this review in class on Monday (and taking the test on Tuesday), so please complete any unfinished sections over the weekend.
• Periods 7 & 9: We will be working in class for one more day (Monday) before discussing on Tuesday and taking the test Wednesday.

Today in English III, we started our class by discussing the extended metaphor in Jean Toomer's "Storm Ending."  This led us into our discussion of the Jean Toomer handout that was assigned for homework on Tuesday.  I collected this assignment after our discussion.

We then moved on to completing our Modernist Poetry Review (posted below).  I passed back graded work as the class worked individually.  We will be working on the review tomorrow and Monday in class with the hope of taking the test next Wednesday.

Today in English III we started our class by finishing our discussion of Arna Bontemps' poem "A Black Man Talks of Reaping."  I collected the Arna Bontemps handout when we finished this discussion.

We moved to our last poem for this unit - Jean Toomer's "Storm Ending."  I asked the class to complete the Jean Toomer handout individually in class.  Whatever they did not finish was assigned for homework. 

Tomorrow we will discuss this handout before moving on to our Modernist Poetry Review.
