Bell Ringer: Reviewing the directions for today's activity and considering how we will be required to use indirect characterization

Today's Activities: Afterwards, I asked students to complete Handout 8 as if it were a quiz.  When they were done, we had our discussion for participation points, but I allowed them to take Handout 8 with them to revise it for homework.

Tomorrow's Class: I will collect the packet containing Handouts 7 & 8, and we will begin reading chapter 3 of The Great Gatsby.

Homework: Revise work on Handout 8 - Nick Carraway

English III 3/5

After a brief hiatus due to extreme busy-ness (and a little illness), this blog is back in working order!

Bell Ringer: Defining and Discussing Direct and Indirect Characterization

Today's Activities: After discussing the notes we took yesterday on Direct and Indirect Characterization, I asked students to complete handout 5 - The Social Register in partners.  This activity asks students to reexamine chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby, looking specifically for what we learn from direct and indirect characterization.

Tomorrow's Class: We will have a full class discussion of the work we completed today before we move on to analyze characterization in chapter 2.

English III 2/19

Today in English III, we started our class by completing a 5 minute, type 1 writing (come see me if you missed it).  After our discussion of this writing, we took notes on the terms in the essential question using the Great Gatsby Background Packet posted below.  As we took notes we completed the connected discussion questions in the packet.

In 3rd period, we moved on to watching the "Crash Course: The Roaring 20s" video (posted below) and answering the discussion questions about the video in the background packet.  We did not get a chance to finish the video, so we will complete it and the discussion questions in tomorrow's class.

In 7th and 9th periods, we did not have enough time to watch the video, so instead we moved on to taking notes on Prohibition and answering the connected discussion question.  We will be watching the Crash Course video at the beginning of tomorrow's class.

No homework tonight.
