English III 1/7

Today in English III, we started class by going over last night's homework (analysis questions for "Acquainted with the Night' by Frost).  I collected these after our discussion, so please turn yours in as soon as possible if you weren't in class today.

After our discussion, we watched a short video called "The Innovators" (posted below).  This video discusses American poetry of the early 20th century and highlights the author we will read next - Ezra Pound.  After watching this video and answering 3 questions (in today's assignment, posted below), we started taking notes on Imagism and the vocabulary needed to read Pound's "A Few Don'ts from an Imagiste").

We did not reach the end of these notes in any of my classes, so we will pick up with them tomorrow.  No homework tonight.

English III 1/6

Today in English III, we started our class by reviewing the terms explicit and implicit and how they are applied to literature.

After this review, we returned to our "Acquainted with the Night" explicit/implicit exercise (posted 12/20), and I gave students time to complete the last three questions with a partner.  Questions #7 & #9 should be completed as paragraphs.  Question #8 should be completed with four bulleted lists.

Please complete this exercise for tomorrow.  We will be going over the correct answers at the beginning of class.

English III 12/20

Today we started our class by discussing the answers to our "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" Analysis Questions.  If you were absent, please turn in this work when we get back from break.

After we finished our discussion, we moved on to the poem "Acquainted with the Night" (pg. 892).  We completed the questions on the explicit information together as a class.  We will pick up with the questions on the implicit information after break.

Have a good break! :) EHock

English III 12/19

Today in English III, we started class by reviewing the vocabulary in the essential question (implicit, explicit, analysis).

After putting these definitions in our own words, we returned to our Robert Frost notes.  After completing the literary terms notes and questions, students got into groups of two or three to complete the analysis questions for "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

We will begin tomorrow's class by discussing the correct responses to the analysis questions, so please thoroughly complete what you didn't finish in class for homework.

English III 12/18

Today, we started our class by getting textbooks.  Students may keep their books in my room as long as they write their names on the inside cover and get a book cover that distinguishes their book from all the other books.  Please see me at the beginning of class tomorrow if you were absent today.

After getting books, I passed out the packet on Robert Frost's poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." We took notes on the essential question and then watched a short video on Robert Frost (posted below).  After watching the video, we answered the first question in our packets with partner and then the whole class.

After our discussion we read through the poem once together before take notes on our literary terms.  We did not get to the analysis questions  - that will have to wait until tomorrow.  We will finish up any notes we have left before breaking into small groups to complete the analysis questions.

If we got all the way to the summary in our notes, please complete that for tomorrow's class.

English III 12/16

Today in English III we took our Death of a Salesman test (49 questions, all multiple choice, 98 points).

Before taking the test, I collected the Death of a Salesman study guide, so please make sure the entire packet has been completed before you turn it in.  All of the questions on the test come directly from the study guide, so please look it over a few times before you come take the test.

Tomorrow we will be moving on to our next story.
