PowerPoint 12/16
- Please use today's PowerPoint to catch yourself up if you were absent during today's class.
Today in English III, we spent time completing the final page of our Death of a Salesman study guides and then discussing the correct responses.
We will be taking the DoaS test on Monday. Please have all parts of the study guide completed. I will be collecting it before passing out the test.
The test will be a multiple-choice test. You will have to read passages from DoaS before answering the questions. Please make sure you study the concepts in your study guides.
Happy Studying! :) EHock
Today in English III, we started class by working with partners on the symbols/motifs in Death of a Salesman.
After about 15 minutes, we started going over the answers, but we did not finish our discussion before the bell rang.
We will complete our discussion tomorrow. Please remember to complete the Themes page in your study guide for tomorrow as well.

Today in English III, we started class by going over two page in the Death of a Salesman study guide - foils and irony. If you haven't been here, please complete as much of these pages as possible.

Today in English III, we started our class by going over last night's homework. I asked students to complete the American Dream page in their Death of a Salesman study guide.
After we discussed these answers, I assigned the Irony and Foils pages in the Study Guide. We worked on the Irony page in class with partners, and I asked students to complete the foils page as homework.
We will start tomorrow's class by going over the correct responses for both of these pages (irony and foils) before moving on to the last sections of the study guide on Themes and Symbols. Hopefully we will be able to take the test by Friday of this week.

Today in English III, we started our class by marking our open-ended responses before turning them in. If you missed class, please take a look at today's PowerPoint and mark your response accordingly before submitting your essay.
After handing in our essays, we discussed the answers to the tragedy questions in our study guides. Please complete the page on the American Dream for homework tonight. We will be going over it first thing tomorrow.
Today in English III, we wrote as much of our Open-Ended Responses as possible. Third period did not get enough time to finish, so we will be finishing our writing briefly on Monday. Ninth period did get enough time, so if you didn't finish, please complete it for Monday.
Either way, please remember to complete the 4 questions on Tragedy in your Study Guides (posted below). We will be completing the rest of the study guide next week as we prepare for our test.
Have a good weekend! :) EHock
Today in English III, we wrote a short response (1 paragraph) to the question, "How do authors of tragedy attempt to get you to sympathize with their tragic hero?"
I asked students to write this response using their Tragedy Notes (Traditional Tragedy and Tragedy and the Common Man). Each paragraph needed a topic sentence and at least 4 examples from the notes. These examples should be restated in your words (don't just plagiarize my notes).
We took between 10-15 minutes to write this response, after which we discussed the answers as a class. Tomorrow we will be using this short paragraph (along with our Examining Structure exercise) to complete our Open-Ended Response for Death of a Salesman.
In the next few classes, we will be reviewing for our Death of a Salesman multiple choice test.
